Licensing Board Overview
In Wyoming, mental health professions are regulated by the Mental Health Professions Licensing Board. All three clinical tracks follow the same supervision rules, set out in Chapter 18 of the Board's rules.

Wyoming-Specific Details
Provisional Licensure
Wyoming utilizes a "Provisional" licensure system for all three major disciplines (PCSW, PPC, PMFT). Candidates must hold these specific credentials before they can begin accruing hours toward independent clinical licensure, and no supervision counts before the start date the Board sets on the Supervision Agreement. Hours earned in another state can count if they were completed within the 24 months before you applied for the Wyoming provisional license.
Designated Qualified Clinical Supervisor
There is no separate supervisor registration in Wyoming. The Board approves a designated qualified clinical supervisor (DQCS) through a Supervision Agreement for each supervisee, before practice begins. A DQCS may supervise no more than 5 supervisees at a time unless the Board grants an exception in writing.
The 1:20 Monthly Ratio
Supervision must be provided monthly at a ratio of at least 1 hour for every 20 hours of direct clinical services (Board Rules Ch. 18). The Board's own forms say each supervisor must meet the ratio on the hours they report. Inadequate supervision under this ratio is the most common supervision-related reason for discipline, so check it every month.
Individual and Triadic Supervision Only
Only individual supervision (one supervisee), triadic supervision (two supervisees), and individual distance supervision count. Supervision of more than two supervisees at once does not count toward the requirement.
Employment
Provisional licensees must work under the administrative supervision of an employer who can hire, discipline, and dismiss them. Independent contracting and self-employment do not qualify.
Counseling Compact
Wyoming is a member of the Counseling Compact and began issuing privileges to practice on August 31, 2026. Wyoming is not a member of the Social Work Licensure Compact.
Documentation Requirements
- Supervision Agreement: Signed by the DQCS and supervisee and approved by the Board before practice begins. A new agreement is needed when a supervisor is added or changed. The form does not accept digital or stamped signatures
- Supervisor records: The DQCS keeps records of the types of supervision provided and the number of hours of experience, client contact, and supervision
- Verification and Evaluation of Supervised Experience (VESE): Each supervisor submits their own VESE directly to the Board within 30 days of the end of supervision. It covers only the hours that supervisor oversaw, so concurrent supervisors split the hours to avoid double credit. Since June 2026 the supervisee also signs and initials it
- Change of supervisor: Notify the Board in writing within 10 days. You may not provide services until the new DQCS is approved, and you need a revised disclosure statement
Virtual Supervision in Wyoming
Wyoming's rules allow individual distance supervision "over the phone or by audiovisual electronic devices," as long as it is adequate to ensure quality and competence. There is no percentage cap on distance supervision. Triadic supervision is defined as face-to-face, and the rules do not provide for triadic supervision at a distance. The VESE has lines only for individual and triadic hours, so confirm with the Board how to report distance hours.

How Guidara Helps Wyoming Supervisors
Guidara keeps your supervision records in one place: hour logs by category, signed supervision notes, and approved timesheets, all stored with timestamps and audit trails. That makes the monthly 1:20 check and your own record-keeping duties easier to keep up with. When supervision ends, you can export PDF records to work from while completing the VESE. The Supervision Agreement and the VESE themselves are completed and signed the way the Board's forms require.
Supervision Requirements in Neighboring States
Supervisors and supervisees often work across state lines, and hours accrued under one board are not automatically accepted by another. If you practice near a border, hold licenses in more than one state, or supervise someone planning to seek licensure elsewhere, check the rules that apply there as well.
